Sasha Alyson, founder of Alyson AdventuresWhat's in the name?

ALYSON

Founder Sasha Alyson has a long history of involvement in the lesbian and gay community. He founded Boston's gay newspaper, Bay Windows, in 1983, and in 1987 got the mainstream publishing world to jointly produce the book You Can Do Something About AIDS, which became the most widely distributed AIDS book of the time. His own publishing company Alyson Publications, issued the earliest books for gay teenagers (such as One Teenager in Ten and Reflections of a Rock Lobster) and for children of lesbian and gay parents, including the controversial Heather Has Two Mommies and Daddy's Roommate. His varied activities have won him recognition as diverse as the James Baldwin Award for Cultural Achievement from the Greater Boston Lesbian/Gay Political Alliance, and being named the "Publisher of the Year" by the New England Booksellers Association.

As one of the country's leading gay entrepreneurs, he has appeared on Larry King Live; been published on the editorial pages of the New York Times; and been named to Out magazine's "Top 100" list of influential gay men and lesbians.

Sasha sold his publishing company in 1995, and now brings that same spirit of innovation to the world of gay and lesbian travel. His gay and lesbian travel column, Venturing Out, appears in gay newspapers around the country.

Canyoning in AustraliaADVENTURES:

On our trips, you have the camaraderie of sharing your experiences with a lively and friendly group, yet the flexibility to be independent and set your own pace. When you come biking with us, for example, you can follow our suggested route with a small group; take the same path at your own pace, or venture off on your own to explore uncharted territory. You quickly get to know others in the group when you're sharing an activity.

If you want a tightly organized group tour, we may not have the right vacation for you. But if you find it exciting to turn a corner without always knowing what's ahead, then give us a try. See out why Out and About, the respected travel newsletter, gave us their Editor's Choice award for Gay Adventure Travel.

And speaking of names, ours is often misspelled. We spell it: Alyson Adventures. Don't sweat the spelling too much: We've also registered the URLs for Allyson Adventures, Alison Adventures, and Allison Adventures.
