Vikings, Volcanoes and Trolls: Adventure travel in Iceland

From glaciers to geysers, from the music of Bjork to the mists of the Blue Lagoon, from the world's only Phallological Museum to the world's oldest Parliament, Iceland is a land of endless contrasts. And it's a perfect spot in which to combine adventure travel and creature comforts, while discovering a land rich in history, as well as meeting other gay men and lesbians.

Iceland is the only country in the world with a written history as old as the country itself. The Vikings landed here over a thousand years ago, and their legacy has survived in a rich tapestry of sagas and tales.

We'll enjoy the company of the friendly blond descendants of those Vikings as we explore their country. We begin by soaking in the naturally-warm waters of the Blue Lagoon, then exploring the bike trails around Reykjavik. The city's vibrant clubs offer opportunities for those interested in meeting other gay men and lesbians.

The next day we head for the highlands of southwest Iceland. Here we'll enjoy an invigorating mix of hiking, mountain biking, whitewater rafting, sea kayaking, and swimming in a naturally-warmed river. As we return from the countryside, we'll have time for sightseeing, shopping, whale-watching, that Phallological Museum, and to enjoy the nightlife of cosmopolitan, gay-friendly Reykjavik.
