Cycle through forests and vineyards, past castles and abbeys

Cycling in Burgundy with gay men and lesbians

The Colors of Burgundy: Bike in Burgundy, France

An aging French woman welcomes our group of gay men and lesbians into her home (which happens to be a castle), seats us in front of her fireplace (in a room where not a single item appears less than 200 years old), and proceeds to give us her perspective on everything from the making of wine to the truth about French history (her blood pressure visibly rises when she gets to the French Revolution). Unasked, but perhaps understanding our group better than expected, she adds her opinion of same-sex marriages. (The nobility would never have considered such a thing!)

Welcome to the former kingdom of Burgundy! We'll also enjoy cycling amidst the vineyards that make Burgundy world-famous, in the forests to the west, and wandering ancient abbeys that for centuries preserved Burgundian culture. And yet, at the end, it's the unpredictable encounters with the people, who embody so much of Burgundy's rich history, that stay with us longest.
